SW News: Pope Francis has expressed his solidarity with the Catholic Church in Nicaragua after the cathedral in the nation’s capital, Managua, was firebombed. The attack took place last Friday. Witnesses say a hooded man entered the Chapel of the Blood of Christ within the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and threw a Molotov cocktail. The fire was quickly extinguished and nobody was injured. A historic 400-year-old crucifix was destroyed in the blaze though. The attack has been described by the Archbishop of Managua, Cardinal Leopoldo José Brenes, as “an act of terrorism”. Now Pope Francis has sent a message of support stating that he too is praying for the Church in Nicaragua. He added that he is presently accompanying all Catholics there in sorrow following the act of vandalism. So far nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
